It's a scary thing when police show up to domestic violence calls, hostile calls and during house fires when young children are involved. What better way to provide reassurance and comfort than being able to provide them with something they can hold and even squeeze tight to calm their jittery fears. It's a tough situation for any first responder, but especially to the Dyer Police Department as they sometimes add to that fear, just from being a uniformed officer.
The children at First Baptist Church had the perfect solution - they collected stuffed animals and donated them to the Dyer PD. Now when the officers arrive at the scene, they have just the warm, furry "security critter" to give the children to distract them as they are taken from the scene.
According to Sergeant Neil Matthews, "The generosity of the kids warmed every one of our hearts as we were presented with the stuffed animals at a recent event at the First Baptist Church. Now we can offer comfort in the form of a four-footed stuffed friend that will provide the reassurance the kids so desperately need."
Dyer Police Chief Brad Lindsey was honored for his 15 years of service to the City by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen at their regular meeting on Monday evening, December 12, 2011. Chief Lindsey joined the Dyer Police Department on December 9, 1996. Lindsey worked his way up the ranks in the Dyer Police Department and became chief on August 9, 2004.
